Donkey's First Day at School
On a bright morning in Robimal Meadow, Donkey was munching on sweet grass while the trees danced in the breeze. Today was a big day for Donkey because he was starting school for the first time! His parents, working at the farm, told Donkey how proud they were of him.
As Donkey walked to school, he heard the birds singing to each other and felt happy. Donkey wished more than anything to make friends and feel like he belonged.
When Donkey arrived at school, he saw groups of students chatting and playing together. He saw Horse and Zebra galloping and laughing and wished he could join them. “But I’m just a little donkey. I won’t fit in,” he thought sadly.
While Donkey was thinking about playing with the other students, he heard a noise nearby. "Help! Help!" squeaked Bunny, hopping around the schoolyard frantically. Donkey's heart raced as Bunny approached him. "Donkey, a tree is about to fall on the school! My little voice isn’t loud enough to warn everyone. I need your help!"
Without thinking, Donkey brayed loudly, "Hee-haw! Hee-haw!" His loud voice echoed through the schoolyard, but it wasn't enough. “Hop on my back, Bunny, and warn everyone!” Donkey said.
With Bunny on his back, Donkey ran as fast as he could, braying and shouting to get everyone's attention. The other robimals turned to see what was happening and quickly realized the danger. Donkey and Bunny warned everyone, and they all rushed to safety.
Once everyone was safe, Horse, who was in charge of the racing team, trotted to Donkey. "Do you want to work together to try and push the tree away from the school before it falls?" he said. "Our strong legs can do it if we work together."
Donkey and Horse positioned themselves against the leaning tree. With all their might, they pushed until the tree began to tilt away from the school. With a final effort, they managed to redirect the tree, which fell harmlessly to the ground.
Bunny hopped up to Donkey and Horse and said, "We're saved!"
Donkey felt a warm glow inside. He had never felt so important before.
During recess, Horse trotted over to Donkey. "You're very strong and brave. I have a team of racers and would be honored if you would join us at practice."
Donkey's eyes sparkled with happiness. "Really? You mean it?" he asked.
"Of course!" Horse replied. "Come with me, and I'll introduce you to Buffalo, Lion, and Rhino."
Donkey was so excited to have made new friends.
