MOUSE
Meet a Real Mouse!
Cool Facts:
Despite their tiny size, mice have excellent senses of smell, hearing, and touch.
They can squeeze through holes as small as a dime!
Their teeth never stop growing, so they need to constantly gnaw to keep them filed down.
Where They Live:
Mice are incredibly adaptable and can live almost anywhere on Earth, except for the coldest and driest areas. They are commonly found in homes, fields, forests, and even deserts.
Where They Sleep:
Mice are nocturnal creatures, so they sleep during the day in nests built from soft materials like leaves, grass, and cloth. These nests are often hidden in walls, burrows, or under furniture.
Home Life and Social:
Mice are very social creatures and live in colonies with complex hierarchies. They communicate through squeaks, whistles, and ultrasonic sounds.
Friendships:
While they are social, mice don't form deep friendships in the traditional sense. However, they do interact and play with other mice in their colony.
What They Do for Fun:
Mice are playful creatures and love to explore their surroundings. They climb, jump, and run, often using objects in their environment for entertainment.
Size of the Animal:
There are over 300 species of mice, but most commonly, they are quite small. An average house mouse is only about 3-4 inches long, not including the tail.
Power Level:
Despite their small size, mice are surprisingly strong for their stature. They can climb vertical surfaces and carry many times their own weight.
Life Span:
In the wild, mice typically only live for 6-12 months due to dangers in their environment. As pets, with proper care, they can live for 2-3 years.
First Known to Humans:
Fossil evidence suggests that mice have been around for at least 34 million years. Humans have likely known about mice since our earliest beginnings, as they would have been common companions around human settlements.
